Sometimes it is necessary to remove healthy teeth, in the case of orthodontic treatment where space is an issue. Here at BKP Dental, we are happy to see patients on referral for orthodontic extractions.
Many extractions are straight forwards and only require a local anaesthetic to “put the tooth to sleep”, and for most people there is little postoperative discomfort.
Surgical extractions of teeth are those where the tooth/ teeth are impacted, such as wisdom teeth, and also those teeth that are extremely broken down thus making simple extractions much more difficult.
After an extraction, it is most important that the socket ”the extraction site “ is kept clean. This is best done with hot salt water mouth rinses- a teaspoon of salt mixed with a cup of hot water gently bathing where the tooth was extracted.
After the extraction, any discomfort can be managed with normal pain medication whatever you would take for a headache
