Wisdom teeth can present problems at any time of life, and this appears to be the time for me.I find myself in a strange situation!! Ive got toothache….. grrr! I’ve had a wisdom tooth that has bothered me periodically over the last 30 years. Its very deeply embedded and close to the nerve which runs inside the jaw bone As amazing as Paul is at extractions, and he has been called the tooth whisperer, he won’t touch it!! saying he’s not crazy.
The problem with wisdom teeth is that our jaw bones have shrunk (evolution) over thousands of years, and sometimes there just isn’t enough room for them I’ve seen xrays of wisdom teeth that are growing upside down, sideways all over the place. The smartest people IE the wise ones dont grow them at all, clearly not me. Many wisdom teeth can be extracted comfortably under local anesthetic, in the practice, we do them all the time
If like mine they are impacted and they pose a risk, by this I mean the nerve can be bruised or severed, causing temporary or permanent loss of feeling, we normally refer them off to a specialist. Specialists are general dentists who after graduation(5 yrs), decide they feel passionate about a certain area of dentistry, such as surgery, orthodontics or root canals, and they invest a further 3 years study to specialize…. these are the people ladies and gentlemen, who will be digging this guy out of me. Had I been a wiser woman I wouldn’t have grown it at all. Fingers crossed it’ll settle down again.
If you have problems with your wisdom teeth( the very back tooth), keep them as clean as you can, hot salt water mouth rinses may help…. otherwise give us a call on 5455 5224 or visit our contact page.
The problem with wisdom teeth is that our jaw bones have shrunk (evolution) over thousands of years, and sometimes there just isn’t enough space for them to erupt and be completely functional, not all wisdom tooth extractions are horror stories, most come out beautifully and upper wisdom tooth are sometimes the easiest extractions of all.
